Small things make big difference

Not just a pretty glass

You might have noticed a change in the glassware that you are enjoying S2S craft beer out of.  There is a purpose for this...and the purpose is you!

What does that mean?

The glass you drink a beer out of has an impact to the overall experience.  Different glasses will impact the aroma and the flavor differently, so we try and optimize the glass to the style of beer.  In addition, how we pour the beer, making sure you have the right foam or head retention is also important.  This helps open up the beer, and release the aroma and flavor so you get the full experience; the look, smell, mouth-feel and overall taste.

In analyzing the beer sales for the first several months, propably comes as no surprise that IPA's top the chart.  Therefore, as we went to look for the glass style that is most impactful to the IPA, which is the Tulip or IPA glass (not very original to name a glass after a beer, but that is what they call it).

In the last 3 months, we changed over all our glassware so that you get not only a true 16oz or 20oz pour, but that you get a better overall experience.  It might be a small change, but for the beer drinker it is noticeable.

Glasses made for an IPA

The tapered-style IPA glasses have a wide mouth and top half with a narrow/ridged stem base. The glasses, designed by Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and glassmaker Spiegelau, were explicitly made for IPAs. Like most beers, IPAs should be served at optimal temperature. Regular pint glasses warm up IPAs too quickly, which is why the IPA glass’s 2-millimetre-thick walls help maintain the beer’s temperature. The goblet-style bowl also helps lead the aromas to your nostrils, and the etched bottoms help release the beer’s carbonation in cascading bubbles.
